Partnering in High School Guidance

20th Century guidance focused on where to go to college." Today's college costs demand a focus on the whether and why of pursuing a four year degree as a goal unto itself.

A Focus on Career Possibilities

The Vision Corner Guidance Center will include extensive information about specific career alternatives. Some high school students are able to define a career direction. Some aren't ready, but advanced guidance techniques can present career alternatives and the individual traits and talents that indicate good or poor fit.

Preparation for Life's Next Step

Clearly, one size does not fit all in Century 21. Among possibilities:

  • Traditional college with specific goals in mind, potentially including a bachelors degree followed by advanced degrees.
  • Traditional college, but intentionally choosing general courses; a time to mature personally and zero in on future goals.
  • Career-focused institution or workplace internship, leading to an associate degree or professional certification.
  • Direct to the workplace or military service, ideally offering opportunities for career advancement.

The DECA and KISS-TV programs in Union City and regional opportunities such as technical training at the John Jay Center and Winchester's welding program are immediate opportunities for career-focused education.

Staying Near Home as a Career Option

Possibilities include company relocations to Union City, expansion of existing businesses or new start-ups via entrepreneurship. Vision Corner Vision Corner GUIDANCE will encourage a local career choice whenever it's a possibility.
